A new addition to the fleet

Triad continues to update its vehicle fleet—this time replacing a 1990 Ford shuttle with a 2002 model with better fuel economy and more features.

The 2002 shuttle joined the fleet on Feb. 25 after a sign company added the required identification numbers, church name and other branding. The 1990 model it replaced, which also seats 25 people, had been one of the oldest vehicles in a six-vehicle fleet which ranges from a 15-passenger van to a 44-seat bus.

“Parts were getting to be an issue, and gas mileage was an issue because the 1990 did not have overdrive,” said Dennis Roberts, executive administrator for church and academy operations. “In the end, we were able to save money and get a new unit that’s a lot nicer.”

Roberts said the church sold the 1990 model in two weeks to another church for $4,500. In January, church members approved adding $15,000 to the Capital Transportation line item in the budget to help complete the $25,000 purchase.

With the new addition, the fleet continues to include two 25-passenger shuttles as well as a 15-passenger van and 15-passenger minibus, and 37- and 44-passenger buses.
