Engage Sunday School prepares for move

Triad’s Sunday School has a new brand and lineup as the church prepares to move into the new Worship Center/Gym sometime in June.

The multipurpose space to be shared by the church and Triad Baptist Christian Academy adds six new classroom locations to Triad’s Sunday School Ministry which has been rebranded “Engage.”

David Grochowski and Michael Bowers are among the Engage teachers whose classes will relocate to the new rooms.

Grochowski’s “Colossians 1:10” class will move from room E-206 to G-202 and meet during the Contemporary Worship Service from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. The “S.W.I.F.T (Serving, Witnessing in Fellowship Together)” class Bowers teachers with Aden Stoltzfus will move from room E-321 to G-214 and meet during the Traditional Worship Service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

“I’m looking forward to having extra time together,” Grochowshi said. “The new space and extended time makes that possible, and fellowship helps make a large church like ours smaller and easier for people to get to know each other.”

Bowers agreed. “More space is definitely needed to relieve congestion between services,” he said. “The extended time between services will allow for more fellowship so we will not feel rushed to get from service to Sunday School.rdquo;

Engage Director Shean Phillips announced the new Sunday School name and the new schedule and class locations April 27 with videos featuring the Engage teachers and the distribution of new Engage Sunday School maps.

A follow-up survey was distributed in each Sunday School class on May 4 as one last confirmation of the research that went into the changes, including a review of attendance patterns of the current worship/Sunday School schedule which features three worship and Sunday School times.

With the move into the Worship Center/Gym, Triad will switch to two Engage Sunday School times and two worship services. Ten classes (eight adult and two youth classes) will meet during the Contemporary Worship service; 13 classes (nine adult and four youth classes) will meet during the Traditional Worship service.

Of the 388 surveys turned in, 113 said they would attend a class in the first Engage session during the Contemporary Worship service, and 256 said they would attend classes in the second Engage session during the Traditional Worship service. (Two classes that will meet during the Traditional service in the new format did not return the surveys in time to be counted.) Of those surveyed, 17 members said they had not yet decided which class they would attend.

To create the new schedule and determine the best locations, Phillips said Triad looked at current attendance patterns and class sizes while also considering needs for easier access (walkers and wheelchairs) and sound, particularly during the contemporary service.

“Some of the key advantages with the new schedule and locations are that we have room for numerical growth in each class,” Phillips said. “We’re also more able to centrally locate specific age groups in particular areas.

““I think most people are excited to be moving to two services and Sunday Schools as it’s less taxing on every person who serves,” he said. “There are, of course, some growing pains with folks who are having to choose now between their preference in music during the service and their Sunday School class, but we trust we have a significant enough offering of classes each hour that everyone will still be able to find a place to continue to grow spiritually.”
