Making Christ Known through Media

A year after creating its first video for the church, Triad Baptist’s official media ministry has even bigger plans for 2014 and beyond.

Managed by Creative Communications Director Jeremy Chandler and directed by Devin Purgason, KNOWName Media is designed to promote the ministries, opportunities, vision, and direction of Triad through video, photography and social media. KNOWName relies heavily on the work of Alec Hutchins. You can see more of Alec's work at www.alechutchins.com.

The ministry draws its name and purpose from Psalms 105:1, “Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.”

It’s called KNOWName Media to give it a unique branded identity for ease of recognition as the church’s official media arm and to protect the rights of its video, photography and social media creations for the church.

The “Not Without You” capital campaign sparked KNOWName’s first project (a three-part video series last January) and was among the reasons for its creation, Chandler said. KNOWName Media accounts for about 25 percent of the Creative Communications budget.

Founded in 2013

“I formed KNOWName Media for three reasons: because Zach and Devin had the technical skills, creative ability and desire to serve in a production-type ministry; because the pastors wanted to build an in-house media team and cut the cost of promoting Triad’s ministries and the Phase 2 building project; and because, from a publicity perspective, all statistics point to visual and viral storytelling as key to reaching today’s society and generation,” Chandler said.

Since its creation, KNOWName Media videos have promoted: the Awake Café coffee shop; the Checkpoint automated security check-in, pick-up and identification system and other aspects of Kids Street Children’s Ministry; the Radiate and Crossing student ministries; the Masterlife Sunday Night Adult Class series curriculum on discipleship; the Life Groups ministry; and Triad’s Sunday School communities.

Meet the KNOWName Media team

Jeremy Chandler, as producer/manager, include creative direction, scheduling and casting. Devin Purgason oversees visual and audio pre/post production. The KNOWName Media team also features Alec Hutchins. Alec Hutchins is a professional photographer and videographer who has been very instrumental in the completion of most of KNOWName's projects through his cinematic knowledge, equipment, and overall expertise in the field. Jeff Smith assists with filming, set lighting and sound on the production crew. Member Kevin Carden adds photography and creative ideas to projects.

“I enjoy serving with KNOWName because it gives me the chance to minister with talents that I may not get to use on a normal basis,” said Bean, an administrative assistant for the Triad Baptist Christian Academy Preschool. “Media is a growing and thriving part of our society, and I love being able to be a part of TBC using technical resources to build a bridge to the community and make an impact for Christ.”

Added Purgason, “I really enjoy being able to minister to people through the medium of video and visual graphics. We are in a world of microwave promotions when people want information and they want it now. What better way to do that than video?"

“Any ministry can use KNOWName Media, and it's an easy and simple way to promote our church and ministries on the internet,” he said. “For instance, when a person shares our GriefShare promotional video on Facebook, maybe one of their friends who has just experienced a loss will see it, click it, become interested and start coming to those meetings.”

Response from members

Chandler said that the ministry’s productions have been well received.

“People have enjoyed the Triad Today films and getting to see an inside look of progress and direction for our new building,“ Chandler said. “They also enjoy the staff films we have done such as What Are You Thankful For? and Christmas Traditions, which help members and visitors to help get to know our staff.“

“I love the new promo videos for visitors that we just filmed called ‘Milestones’ which features interviews with each of our pastors,” he said. “I believe they really represent the heart of our ministry. I'm excited to see these added to the pages of our website and look forward to getting the DVDs into the hands of visitors.”
