New Wednesday night format begins

Returning to the format it once followed in its original sanctuary, Triad Baptist is increasing the prayer time in its Wednesday service.

Lead Pastor Rob Decker announced the change at the Oct. 15 service, including the naming of 10 prayer captains.

Beginning with the Oct. 22 service, members will go to different parts of the church’s old sanctuary for 20 minutes of the prayer. The service also will feature 10 minutes of hymns and other music and 30 minutes of teaching by Decker.

The prayer captions are: Allen Angell, Teresa Armstrong, Grady Ayers, Don Beck, Steve Coley, Angela Hoover, Linsey Huffman, David Perkins, Jim Thomas and Phil Willis.

“Whoever is present on Wednesday evening will go to an open location to lead prayer,” Decker said. “Our goal is to take requests for five minutes and pray for 15. A captain may choose to do a pray with three or four volunteers dividing a group of about 25 into smaller groups to pray for specific and general needs of the church.”

Decker said that the move is designed to further emphasize the church’s focus on prayer in the life of the church.

“John Wesley said that ‘God does everything with prayer and nothing without it,’ ” Decker said. “We know we will not be the church God has called us — or the Christ followers each one of us individually are called to be — unless we earnestly seek His face through prayer in everything we do.

“That’s why we’re making this change.”
