Old location, new sign

Triad Baptist Church sign on South Main Street under construction

Not quite a year after a powerful thunderstorm blew it off its footings, Triad Baptist’s main sign on South Main Street will soon return to its old location with a new look.

Creative Communications Director Jeremy Chandler, the project manager, says the new sign will have the marquee case of the original used until the June 10, 2014, storm damage.

But all the rest is new — new stone façade, side columns to match the architecture of the Worship Center/Gym, and updated cross logo and colors matching those now used on campus.

The old sign had stood in front of the church for more than 15 years. The Town of Kernersville allowed the replacement to be the same height as that was grandfathered in under the zoning rules of the sign’s original construction.

“I am a big fan of consistency in design,” Chandler says. “I wanted something that matched the new sign on Masten Drive and was ‘classy and stylish’ without compromising the look of who we are as TBC.”

Sign at Masten Drive entrance

The new sign’s design will be consistent with this one at the church’s Masten Drive entrance.

Chris Beeson of Beeson Sign Company worked with Chandler to translate his vision for the sign into drawings reviewed in a multi-step process that began with Lead Pastor Rob Decker, Executive Pastor Tim Gerber, and Executive Administrator Dennis Roberts.

Church staff and Building and Decorating teams then reviewed the drawings before final review and approval by the church’s Executive Leadership Team.

Insurance and the donation of the stone have covered much of the sign’s cost, Chandler says.

Much like the old one it replaced, Chandler says the new sign will promote Decker’s messages and the church’s ministries. Kernersville’s sign ordinance does not allow electronic message-board signs so the marquee messages will continue to be lettered by hand.

“We are not committed to placing Pastor Rob's sermon title on every week, but will certainly put it up often to promote and invite guests to hear our pastor. We will also use it as needed to promote ministries. We have grown so much that we cannot always accommodate every outreach ministry’s request for road-front advertising. The new marquee will help.”

In addition to its updated design, another new sign element is the sign language interpreter icon indicating the church’s sign language ministry.

“It’s part of our effort to reach more of the hearing impaired community and let them know we have interpreters at our worship services,” Chandler says.
